What is An Open Adoption?
Open adoptions provide open communication between both the birth parents and the adoptive families. An open adoption provides the opportunity for both parties to participate and enjoy the pregnancy and the birth, as well as forming a long lasting relationship. This can result in the sharing of information such as social history, available medical records and other information that can be obtained from the birth parents. The major advantage of an open adoption is allowing the birth parents to personally know the child’s adoptive family and to gain a comfort level with the home and the lifestyle they will have.
With open adoptions, the birth parents can have regular updates such as letters and pictures and/or emails. A Act of Love adoptions will help with the exchange of updates. The extent of communication between birth parents and the adoptive couple is usually requested by the birth parent and then accepted by the adoptive couple.
It is important to have an open mind before making the final decision on the type of adoption you will want. Through counseling with an adoption professional you will be able to determine the best type of contact or adoption that is right for you.
For more information on the type of adoption including open adoptions that would be right for you call and talk with us we will be happy to answer all of your questions or concerns.
