Adoption Agency News

Act of Love Adoptions is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. The agency relies on donations all year long to help assist our program and birth parents with needs that may arise. It is our hope to be able to assist many birth parents, along with their children, all through the year. We are always grateful for cash donations, gift cards and gifts that we can give these families that are in need. Without the greatest gift of love from birth parents, we would not see all these beautiful children join their forever families. Please help us to help our birth parents this year.

Kathy’s Crew

Every time my grand kids visit, it is a reminder to me of how much I love adoption and how much I love having a family. It takes me back to the mission statement for Act of Love; “To serve children, to help build loving families who share the joy of living and loving together.” Everybody deserves to feel loved. I want thank my staff for the love they give to our adoptive families, birth parents and children. As staff at Act of Love Adoptions, we are grateful for each of you who have supported us and loved with us through the years.

Counseling Corner

Counseling services are available to birth parents by licensed social workers. Our agency is well aware that being able to provide as much information as possible to birth parents who have learned about an unplanned or unexpected pregnancy is vital to helping those birth parents make an informed decision about parenting, adoption, family adoption, state foster care and or kinship adoption.

Often as birth parents request services from Act of Love Adoptions, they themselves are uncertain what their needs are ultimately going to be. They are looking for some sort of guidance to help sort out possible solutions that will be in the best interest of their baby and themselves. Birth parents come into the office or discuss by phone what potentially could be options for them.

Frequently, emotions with an unintended pregnancy can become overwhelming and confusing. In order to help birth parents make an informed decision, it is vital to offer counseling. The counseling will help to sort out feelings and emotions and lead toward a good decision. Whether the decision is to make an adoption plan or parent the child, the information and time spent making these choices will be beneficial.

Some of the topics that are considered in counseling may include but certainly are not exclusive to the following:

  • Fears, past and present…
  • Forgiveness…
  • Grief…
  • What is normal?
  • When you fall, you rise…
  • Adoption myths…
  • Adoption truths…
  • Post adoption contact…
  • Open and closed adoptions…
  • Positive affirmations…
  • Family support system with adoption, parenting, foster care etc…
  • Family relationships…
  • Depression, Post-partum depression…
  • Referrals for drug and alcohol counseling…
  • Religious direction if requested…
  • Financial resources…
  • State assistance if needed…

No one birth father or birth mother are identical in any situation or story. The most common situation that is similar with most birth parents are the feelings of instability, frustration and fear that are taking place in their life at the time that a woman learns of her pregnancy.

Counseling is determined by the birth parents and their needs in any given situation.
